มินามีเรื่องเล่า เป่าเทียนเพื่อฉลองวันเกิด

วันนี้ไม่ใช่วันเกิดของผม แต่ผมอยากเล่าเรื่องเป่าเทียนวันเกิด 

คุณเกิดเมื่อไร คุณเป่าเทียนฉลองวันเกิดไหมครับ

ตามธรรมเนียมแล้ว ในวันเกิดเรามักจะฉลองโดยการเป่าเทียนที่ปักอยู่บนเค้กวันเกิด เราต้องย้อนกลับไปยุคกรีกโบราณเพื่อหาร่องรอยต้นกำเนิดของขนบธรรมเนียมนี้นะครับ

ชาวกรีกฉลองวันเกิดโดยการบูชาเทพีอาร์เตมิส เทพีแห่งดวงจันทร์และการล่าสัตว์ หลังจากทำเค้กน้ำผึ้งรูปทรงกลมคล้ายพระจันทร์แล้ว ชาวกรีกจะไปที่วัด พวกเขาจุดเทียนที่ปักไว้บนเค้ก แสงจากเปลวเทียนเปรียบเสมือนแสงแห่งดวงดาว การบูชาเทพีอาร์เตมิสถือเป็นธรรมเนียมที่ต้องคุกเข่าก่อนที่จะเป่าเทียน

จากธรรมเนียมดังกล่าวนี้ เรายังคงรักษาแนวความคิดนี้ไว้ โดยเราอธิษฐานก่อนเป่าเทียนวันเกิด

Mina’s Stories: We blow out candles to celebrate a birthday. 

Today is not my birthday, but I would like to talk about the candle blowing on the occasion of one’s birhtday.

When is your birthday? Do you celebrate your birthday by blowing out candles?

Traditionally, a birthday is celebrated by blowing out candles on a cake. We have to go back to ancient Greece to find the first traces of this tradition.

To celebrate their birthdays, the Greeks used to honour Artemis, the goddess of the moon and the hunt.

So they went to a temple after having prepared a round shaped honey cake. This round shaped cake evoked the form of the moon.

Then the Greeks placed candles which they lit to imitate the glow of the star on the surface of the moon-shaped cake. It was then customary to praise this ancient goddess on her knees before blowing on the candles.

 From this custom, we have also retained the idea of the wish we formulate before putting out the candles.

 Histoires de MINA : On souffle des bougies pour fêter un anniversaire.

 Aujourd’hui, ce n’est pas mon anniversaire. Mais je voudrais parler des souffles de bougies.

 C’est grand votre anniversaire ? Vous célébrez votre anniversaire en soufflant des bougies ?

Traditionnellement, un anniversaire est célébré en soufflant des bougies sur un gâteau. Il nous faut remonter à l’antiquité grecque pour retrouver les premières traces de cette tradition.

 Pour célébrer leur anniversaire, les Grecs avaient pour habitude d’honorer Artémis, la déesse de la lune et de la chasse.

 Ils se rendaient donc dans un temple après avoir préparé un gâteau au miel de forme ronde, évoquant la lune.

 Puis, sur le gâteau en forme de lune, les Grecs plaçaient des cierges qu’ils allumaient pour imiter la lueur de l’astre. Il était alors d’usage de louer cette déesse ancienne à genoux avant de souffler sur les cierges.

 De cette coutume, nous avons d’ailleurs conservé l’idée du souhait que nous formulons avant d’éteindre les bougies.
